1,000 Wins

Last night, the Colorado Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise achieved 1,000 wins. They were the sixth fastest franchise to do so. Not only was it their thousandth win, but a spectacular game, as they defeated the St. Louis Blues 9-5. Milan Hejduk had three goals and three assists, and Paul Stastny had two goals, three assists. The Avs look to continue their win streak Wednesday night in Columbus.

Randomness

Well, it’s been a while. I’ve been busy, work and hockey have been taking up a lot of time. Hopefully I’ll be able to write a couple more blogs before the end of the week, but no guarantees. What’s new in my life? Well not that much actually, my beloved Indianapolis Colts lost to rivals the New England Patriots (Let the 19-0 talks begin), and the San Diego Chargers, two very winnable games. My favorite NCAA team, the Boston College Eagles, are also on a two game losing skid, they’ve dropped all the way to #17 in the country, extremely disappointing considering they were #2 14 days ago. However, my favorite team of all, the Colorado Avalanche are thriving. 9-1 at home. 2nd in their conference, 1st in their division. Life is good for Avs fans right now.

I’ve been hearing a lot recently about a deal between the Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Personally, I believe that the Leafs are extremely overrated and lucky to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Avs. However, the Leafs do have one player that I’m very interested in, Thomas Kaberle could be a great addition to the Avs. He’s considered by many (me included) to be one of the top 10 defencemen in the NHL, and would be a great addition to the Avs. Names being thrown out from the Avs are John-Michael Liles, Marek Svatos, and Milan Hejduk. These are some great players (Hejduk especially), and if a deal does get made it will be quite a big deal.

Thats’ about all I’ve got right now, I’ll be back later in the week with some more news, enjoy the week.

Peter Forsberg

Where will Peter Forsberg go? Which NHL team will he sign with? That’s the question on every Avs fan’s mind. Will he return to Denver, or move across the border to Canada, or, more specifically, Ottawa? Will he join hated rivals the Detroit Red Wings? Rumors have been flying since the end of last season, but Foppa still hasn’t made any move. Teams are rumored to have spoke with him, Ottawa captain, Daniel Alfredsson, was rumored to have phoned him. But currently this is all just talk. My biased opinion is that Colorado is the best fit for Forsberg, but wherever he goes, I’m sure that he will be a threat. However, reports state that Forsberg won’t be signed anywhere until at least December, I guess we’ll have to wait and see where Peter the Great goes.

What’s On TV?

Well it’s been awhile since my last post, so, I’m very sorry for that, but I’ll keep on writing. Today, I’m going to talk about television. The Black box of Death, or more specifically, what’s on tonight. Monday has always been a pretty decent TV night, but with the addition of Heroes it’s been awesome! Usually, I’ll catch the latest episode of Heroes before switching over to Monday Night Football. Tonight is especially great, because my favorite team, the Indianapolis Colts (don’t worry, I’m not a bandwagon jumper, I’ve been following them for a couple of years now) are playing. The Colts will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in hopes of keeping their perfect season alive. Well, I’ll keep this one short, as I have supper to attend.

#81 vs. #81

In a change of pace, I’m going to talk about something not related to hockey. Football. This Sunday the 5-0 Dallas Cowboys will face off with the 5-0 New England Patriots. I’m extremely excited for this match. This game features two of the NFL’s best teams in what is sure to be an exciting game. The Cowboys have started the season with record setting offensive numbers. While the tandem of Brady and Moss has made the Patriots almost unstoppable. When all is said and done on Sunday, I expect the Patriots to walk away on top, but expect the Cowboys to keep it close, and make sure you keep your eyes on # 81 Terrel Owens. When TO lays down a challenge like he’s done this week, I expect big things.

Little Stastny Comes Up Big

Today the Colorado Avalanche beat up on the visiting San Jose Sharks, 6-2. Sophomore Paul Stastny played great with one goal and four assists. With Four Goals, Four Assists in Three games, Stastny is on route to hit 218 Points, now keep in mind, he has played well thus far, but will likely slow down soon. However, a 100 point+ performance is definitely a possibility for the 6′0″ Center. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some game highlights tomorrow (To give all on e of my readers a visual aid).

In other Avs news, how about Veteran/Rookie Jaroslav Hlinka. The 31 year old rookie signed with the Avs in the off season after spending his entire career in Czech Republic prior. Avalanche Right Wing Milan Hejduk, a fellow Czech, vouched for Hlinka. The Czech played very well in the preseason, showing some great chemistry with Stastny. I’m sure as the season progresses we’ll see more from him.

First Blog

Hey everybody, this is my first of what I hope to be many blogs. I’m going to mainly talk about hockey, but who knows, maybe I’ll put up some interesting stuff. So, in hockey news today:

The “Battle of Ontario” is beginning as I write this, however, the puck has yet to drop, but I’ll surely check that one out. My Beloved Avs face Dallas at 9:30 eastern. Detroit is currently up 1-0 over Anaheim, but we should expect the Stanley Cup Champs to bounce back.

The hockeybuzz.com ’s anonymous hockey blogger Eklund recently came out with this season’s predictions (You Can See it Here). Here’s his review of my Avs:

COLORADO AVALANCHE: The last time Joe Sakic went on a mission to win a Cup for a friend, Ray Bourque, it sorta worked out. Enter Ryan Smyth. Watching these two play this year together will mean no sleep for Eklund. Add to the mix Hannan, the best UFA signing that no one talks about, and just realize that this may be the best team in ALL OF HOCKEY. Don’t forget about Leopold, who was hurt all year last year…and Hejduk…and Svatos…and a player that in 95% of all years would have won the Calder, Stastny….and Liles. The Avs haven’t been this stacked for a long, long time, and they have a former MVP in net who I have heard is on a mission to prove the world wrong. They are my pick to win the Stanley Cup. (and no Jamie, it is not just because I want to go to the beautiful city of Denver).

I’m a fan of Eklund’s so it’s great to see that he likes our chances this year. With the acquisition of Smyth and Hannan, the Avs have a real shot this year. All the Avs need is a good year from the 6 million dollar man, Jose Theodore. Expect the Avs to be a force in the Northwest this year.
